Brian Casillas

Born and raised in Southern California specifically the Inland Empire area. I completed my bachelor’s degree at UC Riverside in Biology. I then worked for a couple of years as a water treatment plant lab technician while also scribing in an emergency department on my nights and weekends to further determine my next options for a career pathway. This allowed me to further discover my interests in not only medicine but emergency medicine as well.

I then started medical school at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine (CCOM). I was able to participate in the interest groups including the ultrasound interest group, where I was instructed by our EM staff to teach emergency medicine ultrasound to other students. I participated regularly in our school’s mobile clinic assisting those in the local community that lacked access to preventative care. I also was able to widen my patient population experiences by finding early clinical experiences in rural medicine which I continued in my later clinical years.

I was excited to be in Arizona for residency as I had spent the prior few summers and holidays in Phoenix with my wife while she was completing law school at ASU. We have come to love the area and plan to remain after residency.

We currently have two cats and hope to adopt a dog. In my free time, I enjoy playing guitar, watching stand-up comedy or improv, and building/repairing computers.
